The course descriptions listed below are as listed in the "2002-2003 School of Medicine and Health Sciences Bulletin".

EHS 170 EMS Systems Design (4 credit hours) Analysis of the components and characteristics of emergency medical services systems at the local, regional, state, and national levels; various systems configurations; strategies for evaluating system effectiveness and efficiency.

 

EHS 171 EMS Operations and Management (4 credit hours) Principals of personnel management and process that contribute to the effectiveness of an EMS organization. Topics include human resource management, resource allocation, and procurement policy.

 

EHS 172 Leadership in EMS Agencies (4 credit hours) Development of leadership skills in listening, delegation of responsibilities, discipline, and decision making.

 

EHS 173 Special Operations (4 credit hours) This course provides a manager's eye-view of EMS special operations. The student develops and applies a general supervisory template to use as the special operations section supervisor or coordinator.

 

EHS 179 EMS Development and Strategic Planning (5 credit hours) An integrated capstone course to develop skills in diagnosing EMS organizational problems, formulating and selecting strategic alternatives, and recognizing problems inherent in strategy implementation.


EHS 197 Clinical Internship (1 - 6 credit hours) Internship experience with a local, regional, national, or international emergency service to gain experience in assisting in the daily clinical practices of the agency's health care system and to increase skills in adapting to diverse clinical settings.


EHS 198 Administrative Internship (arr.) The student is assigned to a local emergency medical service agency to assist in the administration of its health care delivery program. Opportunity to evaluate health care service delivery and to devise/supervise protocols and regulations.

 

EHS 199 Independent Study (1-3 credit hours) Individual research projects in an area relevant to emergency medicine. For undergraduate seniors with permission of program faculty.
