In a discussion forum, instructors facilitate the exchange of ideas or communications among members of an online learning community. Rather than ask as a leader, the instructor moderates class dialogue, thoroughly developing discussions, asking facilitative questions, and providing redirection when necessary. In doing this, the instructor incorporates and synthesizes students’ shared knowledge back into the teaching framework, thus integrating student contributions into a common pool of knowledge.
